Here is another from the UK: /foi/internalops/fo You can also go to any local LPG supplier and they should be able to instruct you in what is safe and correct.
Oh dear lord, where do some people get their information? Corrine C is completely incorrect in saying a bit is a snaffle if it has one joint in the mouth piece! For instance a kimberwick can have a jointed mouth piece and a tom thumb does have a jointed mouth piece, but they are NOT snaffles! They are both leverage bits! Also an eggbutt Mullen mouth has a solid mouth piece and IS a snaffle. The mouthpiece does not determine if a bit is a snaffle. In general a snaffle is a bit that utilizes direct reign contact. A snaffle can have no joints (mullen mouth), one joint, or several joints (for instance a french link). A happy mouth bit is just a brand name of bit that has apple scented rubber that covers the metal material underneath. The happy mouth roller and the french link have similar action in the horses mouth as they are both snaffles with a loose ring, and 2 links. They will both collapse on each side instead of causing the nutcracker affect of a single link mouthpiece and will provide some tongue and bar pressure, as well as pressure on the corners of the mouth. Also the loose rings will slide back and forth freely to help adjust your rein position. A word to the wise is to get bit guards so that your horses lips are not pinched by the rings when they slide in and out of the holes on the bit. Also, loose ring snaffles are good for those who are still working on having soft hands, since they help to instantly adjust. Actually they are good for just about anyone! My mare just adores her D ring french link JP by Korsteel bit. It has curved bars along with the french link to make the bit more comfy in her mouth since she has a low pallet and a sensitive mouth. I have found that for her a single jointed snaffle can do the nutcracker thing and bonk her in the pallet. Ouch! GOOD LUCK!
snaffle means there is only one link in the mouth-piece. happy mouth is bassically a apple-flavored plastic molded ontop of the metal mouth-piece. loose ring is when the cheek piece is litteraly a ring, it is free to move around. gives the horse a little more play.
