Question:

best way to sound proof/build a music studio?

Thinking about building my own studioWe play acoustic 95% of the timeWhat are the best materials (wood, insulation, ect.) to use to build a studioWhat is the best way to make the playing/singing booth? If you have any suggestions, let me knowThanks

Answer:

There are a lot of professional materials out there for soundproofing, but as you may have already discovered they are expensiveYou can get close to the same results for much less building the booth yourselfHowever it's not so much the materials you use, but how you build itSound travels through solids easily and a standard wall is solid wherever there is a studSo to prevent this from transmitting sound, you build a double wallThis is done by building one standard wall with studs every 16 with sheetrock on one sideInstead of putting sheetrock on the other side of the studs, you put up a 2nd set of studs right next to the first but offset them halfway between the studs of the 1st wall and sheetrock thatYou end up with a double thick wall with no solid connection between the two sidesLoosely snaking fiberglass insulation horizontally between the studs will further deaden sound transmission between the two sidesIf you want to deaden sound within the booth, you can attach foam or carpeting to the interior wallsWith foam, be aware that some types of foam are not fire retardant.
on any engine to increase performance we must increase the volumeteric effienceylook into the link above to get a coursethis will delay you but in a year or so you will be able to do your own work and understandok gilermo
