Probably the transmission leaked fluid onto your exhaust or cat converter. Have the trans checked out it might just be a leak that needs fixing or a new transmission. Another possibility is that you cat converter is plugged and overheating.
I hope your cat is not still stuck in the fan! If you call someone for help, I'll bet a professional will have safety gloves that will prevent scratches. Maybe you even have something. Call someplace like PetSmart and find out what you could purchase if you need to. (By now the poor thing is probably o.k.)
