Question:

Blocked bathroom sink?

I noticed my bathroom sink was looking a bit gunky , so used Kiwi drain unblocker in sachets which i poured down the sink and followed the instructions. But instead of cleaning the pipe, it has blocked the sink and now the water is not draining away! I used the drain unblocker again and this morning used bleach but nothing is shifting it. How can a drain unblocker have caused the sink to block? Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:

Go on the roof right above the bathroom and run a water hose down the vent pipe it as far as it will go. Let the water run full blast for about 10 minutes. Have you taken off the elbow(trap)under the sink and cleaned it? All the plumbing in that bathroom are connected to the same main drain under the house.
Well, look under your sink. The area which has a twistable part,(looks like an upside down cap) twist it off and remove the gunk. But place a pail below it coz all the water will gush out. Then on the tap and rinse it for a little while. That should work. There's probably too much dirt trapped there making water unpassable.
If you can use a plunger that would loosen the clog and help the drain off. Or if it's possible to remove the drain plate in the sink you could try to snake it, this can help too. The bad thing about using draino and bleach if you have to pull the pipes out it can be a toxic mess. Good luck.
1st thing first drain cleaner is a sham, it sets like concrete if left in there. your only choice is to get a plumber to change you pipes since now you won't get that stuff out. next time something happens liike this, DO NOT USE DRAIN CLEANER!!! what you do is undo the S-bend. when you look under your sink, see how the pipe kinda does a loop, well what you do is put a small bucket under it and then you undo that and use like a brush to clean ur blockage out. hope this helps
