Question:

Breeding Crested geckos?

My crested geckos seem to already know how to breed, and quite well. I have two breeding pairs that came to me from my husbands jobs, people just not able to keep them anymore. So now I am having two gravid females pretty much every one and a half to two months. I hate to see the eggs after they lay them dried up and dead. I know that they need a nesting bowl, but where do you go from there? I tried to use some damp substrate and they ended up molding which I took as unviable. So are there any suggestions where to get vermicullite. I have looked all over the place and the only place I can find it is in potting soil that has chemicals which I know is a no no. Any suggestions would help. Thanks alot everyone that answers.

Answer:

You'll need a polystyrene box, a thermometer, a heat mat and a thermostat, as well as your tupperware/takeaway box, vermiculite and eggs. Unless you have all of this spare, it will only cost you ?30 - ?40 or so. Put damp vermiculite in tupperware box and put inside the polystyrene box. Place heatmat, connected to themostat, under the tupperware box also inside the poly box. Put thermostat and thermometer probes inside tupperware box where the eggs will be (may need to make a hole in the box).
