Question:

buying a gm 14 bolt dually axle not a cab and chasis need to know if it can be converted to single wheel axle?

i heard they are to long but other sites say that the 14 bolt axles are all inerchangeable with there parts and go from different sizees easily need some help asap

Answer:

The dually axle will physically bolt up. If it came from a truck that was an ambulance or utility truck etc. it will be a little wider than a standard pickup truck rearend for the purpose of stability. in that case you would need to use a longer brake line. They are east to make for a home mechanic. Just be sure to get the flares right on the ends and don't forget to put the fittings on before making the flares. The only other difference is the length of the wheel studs-the studs on a dually are longer. Using open ended lug nuts will solve this problem. All in all, it's a simple swap that I've done many times. Oh yeah-if it's a 4x4-make sure that the gear ratio matches the one in your front diff. If not, you'll be tearing things up real quick.
JUST PUT SINGLE WHEELS ON IT OFF A 3/4 TON
