i added a bottle of STP fuel injector additive to a full gas tank on my car and then some time after i went on the freeway and the light went on could that have caused it???if so should the light go off on its on or do i have to reset it?
well, it depends on how old your car is - if its an older car its possible some 'residue' in the fuel lines came detached an has clogged an injector if its a newer car - i am in agreement on the O2 sensor new cars are hyper sensitive to anything that is related to emissions on your car - adding fuel injector to your gas is one thing or its possible that your gas cap is not on tight enough - the check engine light will also come on for that you can try disconnecting your battery and letting the car sit for awhile - it may go out - if not, the dealer or repair shop would have to reset it
The additive can cause the light to go on. The sensors recheck the system after a little bit of driving, then the light would go off. If it doesnt go off then get the light checked, theres prob something else wrong.
My understanding is it has an effect on the O2 sensor, which in turn causes the check engine light to go on. Then it may go off by itself, but more than likely, you'll need to hook it up to the electronic diagnostic to clear the error code.I think you can go to Pep Boysthey'll do it.
