Question:

Can AMD motherboard that use an FX Bulldozer processor use an AM3 socket processor?

I am building a budget gaming PC and I want to get a motherboard that can support the AMD FX quad core, six core, and eight core processors. But I don't want to spend too much money on a new motherboard AND a new processor. So I was wondering if the motherboards that use the new processors are backwards compatible with AM3 socket processors like Phenom II X6 or X4. Did I make this question too complicated? I hope not. Please and thank you for helping :)

Answer:

if the FX Bulldozer processor is AM3+ socket you can use it! but be sure you have enough cooling system and also get a power supply micro-ATX with 400 watts at least! just a reminder if you want to get a gaming video card make sure get a power supply with a six-pin PCI-Express power cord!
The FX Bulldozer processors require the AM3+ motherboards. Most (if not all) of the AM3+ motherboards are backwards compatible to use the AM3 processors. To be 100% sure that your AM3+ motherboard will support the AM3 processors, check the motherboard's web page and look under CPU support.
