Question:

Can asbestos from a boiler come through the heating vents?

So I'm looking at purchasing an older home and there is a big snowman asbestos boiler in the basement. The heating fuel is oil and the heat type is steam. What I want to know is: is it at all possible that asbestos fibers from the boiler can enter the heating system and make it into the home?!?!?

Answer:

It can not get into the steam portion of the system. The only way for the asbestos to get into other part of the house is for it to be damaged and become airborne. Are you positive that the thermal insulation on the boiler is asbestos? Is it in good repair? The only sure way to know is to have it professionally tested.
I used to visit this old house, but these days, they are all about ripping out the old. Then it's just...this old shell. :0(
