Since the propagation of information in Optical fibre is done with the help of light hence it is called optical fibre. Its principle of working is total internal reflection. The optical fibre consists of an inner core and an outer cladding, which has a lower refractive index. When the light strikes the boundary between the core and the cladding at an angle larger than a particular critical angle with respect to the normal to the surface then no light can pass through and all of the light is reflected. The critical angle is the angle of incidence above which the total internal reflection occurs.
