Can I add a suspension fork on my old Giant ATX 960 ? If Yes do I have to change the brake system ?

Answer:

Bull. You can add a suspension fork to any bike. As to whether you will need to change the brake system, it will depend on the fork you choose and the existing braking system. Riser bars change the steering. Bar ends change the steering. Aerobars change the steering. Drop bars over flat bars change the steering. What will change is the rake of the fork and the plane in which the handlebars follow. This could be a positive change rather than a negative one.
I put a suspension fork on a cheap $85. Huffy, had no problem with the front being to high, used the same brakes, rode it for 2 years with no problems. It's a bicycle not the space shuttle. Modifications are only limited by your mind.or lack their of.
It will mess with the headtube angle too much and cause what's called, Wheel Flop. This is where the front wheel wants to flop over while turning a corner. This is dangerous! Furthermore, is the steerer tube compatible with suspension forks on the market today - 1 1/8 Threadless. Are you prepared for the expense of the unit it's self and the labor to install it. The guy below needs to get a clue as to inadvertently picking the bike's front end up 4 inches or so and trying to ride around, much less climb a simple hill. Any newer bike within the last 58 years has a much shorter headtube and a different angle to account for the increased height of the suspension fork. to keep the front of the bike down so you can actually stand over it and climb a simple little hill! Sorry for the length. Some people, I guess, just need it spelled out - maybe they should study frame design first and then make their comment!
