Question:

Can I lay engineered flooring directly onto concrete?

Trying to redo the basement. Do I need to lay some type of subfloor or can I lay the engineered flooring directly onto the concrete?

Answer:

Probably. You are going to probably go for the better grade of underlayment (padding under the floor) and you MUST make a good vapor barrier so you can't half *** it when you put the underlayment down. The flooring guys at Lowes or Home Depot are generally pretty knowledgeable and can show you the things you need.
In both the last two answers I can t se being able to do sry guys.. Any moisture barrier that is put down you will not be able to adhere the flooring down with..Now if your engineered flooring is made to float that is different..If not the only way to adhere engineered wood is to glue directly to the cement.. The glue in this case acts as your moisture barrier. Since most all glues( not all) used to adhere wood flooring is a non water based product and thus normal basement floors won t affect it.. Now if you do have a high moisture or problems in the past I d explore doing ceramic as a flooring since it s the only thing not effected by moisture GL
Normally, you need a moisture barrier under the flooring. This can be roofing felt or the special type made for flooring.
In most cases you lay down a thin sheet of foam that helps to keep the temp. from transferring to your wood floor plus it makes it quieter to walk on ..You might want to seal the concrete floor first..Check the label on the package you do not want to void the warranty..Hope this helps
there are several types of engineered floors. Some will resist dampness from concrete and some will not. Since you are putting the floor down in a basement you should investigate your material further.
