Question:

Can I replace a hard wired smoke detector with a light?

Can I replace a hard wired smoke detector with a light? I'd like to use existing wires without running new wires.

Answer:

hmm that's a toughy. . . have you thought of trying baby monitors shut his door and secure it, but keep a baby monitor in his room and yours so you can hear him. and less to drink before bed and he won't need to get up in the middle of the night. and after a few weeks you won't need to keep the door secured any more b/c he will stop trying and if he is getting up all night (which i know all about i have a 5yr old and 3 yr old) then maybe try switching his nap schedule or a little later bed time
Try speaking to him on his level. Tell him it scares mommy daddy that he goes downstairs when you are sleeping. Ask him, do you think when you wake up to go potty, you could go back in your room play in there till you get tired? This let's him know that you don't have a problem with him getting up at night, just going downstairs. Have you tried a wall mounted gate? We used a safety first one took the knob off on the side she always tried to open. We had to reach over push/turn from the other side. But only close the gate at night.
A good explanation would take at least a long conversation or lecture. This is not the place to get an education in such a complex subject.
I highly doubt there is a gate out there that a 4yr old cant open. I have gates in my house that have child locks on them and my 3yr olds can open them. You should just try to retrain him to stay in bed instead of getting up! If hes potty training perhaps you could try putting a monitor in there for when he gets up to potty. Using a TALL wooden gate put the locking part on the outside where he cant get to it and pull up opening it. Other than that I dont know how you would do it. That was the only way we got the girls to stay in their room at night when they started toddler beds. Now at 3yrs old they stay in bed unless they have to potty. I wish you luck
My biggest worry is do you lock the front door, so he can't get out! Stair gates are not going to work i know that! I just hope you lock the doors going out!
