Question:

can I use copper pipe for exterior natural gas line to a gas grill?

I would like to change my propane grill over to natural gas. I know I will need to change the orifice in the grill, no problem with that. And I have done quite a bit of gas work as a plumbers apprentice many many years ago. I have worked with both black pipe and copper inside walls and in crawl spaces. I have plenty of access and can easily T off my water heater with 1/2”. Planning on installing a shut off at the T and another at the grill end of the line, about 12 feet of run, all above ground and run along the outside of the home roughly 8” above ground just below the vinyl siding. Question: Today what are the pros and cons of copper and black pipe in this application?

Answer:

Get a gasfitter at least answer that, if not do the work, to local codes, and have it inspected. Probably black pipe or corrugated stainless.
Even though you have some knowledge but not enough to know about pipes I really would get a qualified person in to do it much much safer.
sure you can use copper but i suggest you use soft copper and flare fittings
