Sadly alarm clocks are fast losing their popularity, and you will have a hard time tracking down any obscure features like this. More and more humans seem content to use the alarm function on their mobile telephones, most of which are indeed capable of recording a message and using it as an alarm tone.
What you describe is impossible if you think about. If you disconnected it and it doesn't have a battery then it can't chirp, there is no power there. I suspect what you mean is that you took down the part you see off the plate on the ceiling which is still powered. The only logical conclusion is there is electronics on top of that plate that is still wired, hot, and doing the chirping. It might have a rechargeable battery that may or may be able to be replaced on top of that plate. It might only use a capacitor to store power as a backup. In that case you need to replace the whole unit including what you left mounted on the ceiling. I think they part you removed might only be the sensor part, removable for cleaning. And if you turn off the power to work on the plate section your other fire alarms may go off signaling a loss of power. It depends on the type. Good Luck.
