I have a Weber grill. It is my second one; the first one caught fire and so I used a fire extinguisher on it. Since it was covered with a layer of white chemical powder, I got a new one. Today, it happened again, but the grill is pretty new. Can I just replace the grill and flavorizer bars, scrub the rest and start grilling again? Or will those chemicals make the food unsafe or taste bad no matter how I clean it?

No. No individual can singlehandedly destroy the economy. That goes for Obama, Bush, Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and anyone else you can think of. Consumer spending habits affect the economy, company decision-making affects the economy, Congressional policies affect the economy. Any President can advocate a spending package, tax cut, or other course of action, but without Congress's action, the President can't do jack. That Radical Extreme Left has nothing to do with this. Obama has as much to do with them as Bush does with Jay-Z. Obama is primarily a capitalist whose actions thus far have been attempts to rescue that very system, albeit via imperfect means. Move along, there's no revolution here.
The smoke alarm is most likely 7-10 years old. When they get that old the sensor on them starts to fail and they just constantly beep like that. If its wired to the house like mine are then they should just unclip from the ceiling.Take it off, take the battery out and hold the button until it stops beeping (draing the power) then go to the store and get another one like it, one that has the same fitting for the plug to the house. I've had about 4-5 of them in my house go bad the last 2 years. They are all about 10 years old.
