Question:

Can the cable length made a difference on how a guitar sounds on a amp?

Friend who is a great lead player who going on 85 been using a short 4ft cable and his Gibson he plays never had a real great sound and hard to control volume.Well the cable broke and borrow one I had that was long 10ft or more and did it make a difference in the sound and control of his Gibson.I fix the cable and he is back to the same problemHe notice it right off. so a longer cable I guess is what he needs but could the resistance or maybe it is the extra capacitance of the longer wire gives him a better sound and controlanyone seen this before

Answer:

Hi yes there three components do make a difference resistance capacitance and inductance and the one they all forget leakance. that which leaks across wires and capacitance uses an attenuation of high frequencies.
You are Absolutely Correct. Cable capacitance is The reason. The greater the capacitance, the more the cable attenuates high frequencies. Different cables have differing values of capacitance per foot, so using the same length of a different cable is not a guarantee of the same results. Some experimentation might be required.
