Question:

Can you dye crystal quartz?

Out of curiosity can you use food coloring to dye quarts in the idiot that keeps telling me to Google it's not on there shut the hell up

Answer:

Hello there, I have never tried using quartz for a spark with steel. I dont know for certain if it sparks. Flint definitely will. You can find flint or chert (something very much like flint but not as translucent) about anywhere. The northeast does not have a lot of flint. The midwest has it everywhere. So where you live matters in how common flint is there. If there are any fields near you, trying walking through a plowed field. The plow turns up small stones. You probably can find flint there, if it is in your area. Also a gravel bed in a small stream is a good place to look. Later,
