I read in Richard Nicholls book on Hydroponics that extraordinary results can be acheived by growing cactus in water! Has anybody tried this?

No way! If you grow cactus in water it will rot within 1 hour and start to die. Catus are native from the desert areas like africa where there is almost no rain. These cactuses sometimes don't get rain for about 2 months and are still fine. If you see that your cactus is starting to shrivell up that means that they need water. The only cactus i could see living in water is the chrismas cactus it is not really a cactus it is a jungle cactus it is native from the rain forests and yes i have already tried to put normal cactuses in water and they all died, exept the chrismas cactus.
