Question:

Can you let meat rest by leaving it in the oven?

I have cats, so putting meat out in the open to rest is not a good ideaAnd an aluminum foil tent is not going to protect the meatBut I was thinking, if I turn the oven off, and leave the door ajar, would that work?

Answer:

YesIt's fineI've done it that way beforeJust make sure if you're using meat with a higher fat content(like beef, pork etc) it has a place to go once it releasesAnd it will once it really gets cookingYou might want to have an extra pan underneath there to catch any drippingsCook time depends on how many lbs you're cooking and how thick you make the loafWhen I make a 2lb meat loaf if takes about an hour and 15 minutes.
You can make a free form meatloaf and put it on a cookie sheet or a cast iron skillet or other pan or dish that is oven proof.
In my opinion, Aluminum foil is'nt strong enough to handle it and the juices Mike
NoThe oven will have a lot of residual heat and continue to cook the meatI would try putting a box over it or somethingYou gotta let those kitties know who's the bosslol Edit: the meat only needs to rest for 10 minsIf you need to, you could put it in the fridgeIt won't get cold in that amount of time.
