Yes, Black Sabbath IS (together with Judas Priest) the first heavy metal band! When you are talking about heavy metal do you mean Traditional (70s and 80s) Heavy Metal such as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Ozzy? Or do you mean the whole Metal genre with its subgenres? Do you feel comfortable with listening to Extreme Metal (hard metal with screaming vocals)? I ask you because I presume you are pretty new to metal. Here are some awesome bands with clean vocals that are not too hard to start with: Heavy Metal (traditional): Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Iced Earth. Gothic Metal: Epica, After Forever, Leaves' Eyes, Octavia Sperati, Tristania, Sirenia. Symphonic/Melodic Metal: Edenbridge, Nightwish. Power Metal: Demons And Wizards, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Kamelot. Folk Metal: Skyclad, Midnattsol. Progressive Metal: Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica, Opeth. I don't include Nu-Metal such as Slipknot and Korn since I don't consider it to be metal. :)
