Question:

can you put a car tire on back of a motorcycle?

i talked to a guy who did this and he said he loved it. maybe something that i would like to try how would you figure out what size tire? i have a 1900 stratoliner has any one did this and if so what do you think and what size tire did you use

Answer:

The bonding jumper connects the ground bar to the neutral. It is installed at the service entrance panelboard or switchboard. It is usually included in the hardware kit with the electrical gear along with a Service Entrance sticker.
I would try to keep the same rim that is on your motorcycle because of the chain, and the part of the rim where the chain hooks to, to spin the tire. You could maybe find a car tire to fit the rim of your motorcycle. Thought car tires are flat and motorcycle tires tend to be round so they are easily tilted to turn corners. If you place a car tire on your motorcycle you may have a harder time controlling your bike through tighter turns.
Even if there was a comparable sized car tire, I definitely wouldn't do it. Car tires are made with deeper beads where the tire meets the rim. Put a car tire on a bike rim and you have exposed bead that has no support from from the wheel. Flex the tire much and you could loose the seal between tire and wheel, causing it to deflate in a big, crash causing hurry. My experience has been that the most expensive tires I've ever had were the least expensive ones top buy initially. They're not cheap, but if you want good mileage, buy a Dunlop Elite 3. I have one on the back of my Kawasaki Voyager XIII, a 960 lb touring behemoth. Without rider, the weight on my rear tire probably equals the weight of your entire bike. My tire is an ordinary bias tire and I have over 20,000 miles on it and it still has tread. On your bike, I bet an Elite 3 would last 30,000+ miles.
I ride an LS650 with a 140/80-15 rear tire. Some people have placed 145R15 car tires on their LS650 with the claim of much higher tire mileage with no loss of traction. Bogus, of course. You do lose the margin of safety you get with a motorcycle tire. My safety is worth more than saving a few bucks on a tire, I'm running Metzeler ME880's. Your Stratoliner uses a 190/60-17 rear tire, which is 26.1 inch diameter, 7.4: inch width. Coker will sell you a 475-500-17 tire that is 26.5 diameter. Couldn't find anything near a 190/60-70 car tire.
