Question:

Can you run wheels with different backspace on the same axle of a car? Will it track weird?

My 1965 Mercury rear axle (Coil and Link Suspension) is not centered under the car, it‘s off my about 3/4. Looks like it was that way from the factory and the factory size wheels and tires work just fine under there, car does not track weird. I wantedto run wider wheels and tires, but to work the backspace on ine side will be 4.5 and 5.5 on the other. Will this work?

Answer:

Why not just buy wheels the same offset, and use spacers under the one that has less backspace. They sell them in wheel shops.
lol dont give y!a any ideas lol but yeh people come on here to have fun so why suspend them or report them anyways
I doubt it was that way from the factory but it is possible. The car was probably hit at some point in it's past and either the body is off on one side, the frame is bent, or the axle/suspension is slightly bent or knocked out of alignment. If it's off by 3/4 then it's only off center by 3/8 which would make one side 3/4 different than the other. Buying different backspaced wheels is probably the worst idea I can think of to rectify your problem. Take it to a body shop and have them look it over to see what is wrong so they can fix it. It might be something relatively minor. They have the specific measurements for your car's frame and body to tell what is causing the misalignment.
