Question:

Can you use the heat from a refrigerator to heat water?

I was wondering if I could put a heat exchanger behind a refrigerator to heat water. I heard that they give off a lot of heat will this be enough and is this feasible. Also would this be efficient?

Answer:

Great idea. I have never seen it designed, but I believe it would work. The heat is not enough to heat hot water to final temperature, but could be a preheater and save kilowatts.
u can ask a plumber, or call sears/ the manufacturer.
A refrigerator would only give off enough heat to heat a very small amount of water, and probably not very hot at that.
