Question:

Carpet price estimate?

I'm planning on helping my dad put some new carpet in our family room. We measured it and its ABOUT 13.5ft by 13.5ft. Any body know how much that would run for? And our current carpet is the very thin outdoor/indoor carpet. Its ugly and needs to go.

Answer:

Deb is basically right but if your going carpet shopping , you need to know the s/f prices. Carpet hasn t been sold by the s/y for almost 10 years . If your doing it yourself, Then yes I d strongly suggest a 15 ft pc.. The average DIV hasnt the tools and skills to do seaming. You can get 15 ' goods at remnant places at time, or you can order it and it s the same price as 12' goods..per s/f. So if your doing 15 x 13.5 thats 202.5 s/f or 203 s/f You can get carpet (just carpet) for as low as 1$ a s/f and if you look at discount places that carry mill ends or discontinued carpet remnants sometimes cheaper. If your haveing it done w/ pad you can start figuring the cost at 2$ a s/f and up depending on the quality.. Any flooring questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
You will need about 22 yards. You can figure that by assuming that you will buy piece of carpet that is 15 feet wide (they come 12' and 15' wide-using 15' wide will avoid having to piece the carpet). 15' wide will go in one direction. You then divide the other measurement 13.5' by 3' and get 4.5'. Now divide 15' by 3' =5'. Now multiply 4.5x5=22.5. That is how many yards you will need if you get carpet that is 15' wide. Average carpet runs anywhere from $10. to $30. per yard. At $20. per yard, the carpet will cost you $450. Padding and installation will be extra. I have seen some great deals at Lowes and Home Depot adn they offer really low prices for install.
Deps right, Lowe's and home depot have great deals on in stock carpet. unfortunately you need a 15' roll. there a lot more pricey and usually special order.
It would vary from carpet to carpet . Depending upon your budget. Just to give you the details you can check our link.
