Question:

cars air suspension?

My car started to show a sign that says RIDE CONTROL. My car is a Lincoln Continental 1990i read the car manual and I followed the steps to turn off that sign, but it wont work. The manual says that it is a problem with the air suspension. What is air suspension? Is it ok to keep using the car because i dont have other one?

Answer:

You either have a leak in your brake line or your master cylinder has gone out. Get to the shop ASAP; soon you will have NO brakes.
OBXMAR is correct, but first check your brake fluid, it could be something as simple as being low in brake fluidif that's the case, refill and pump brakes til resistance continuesif not the case, get it in ASAP!
do no longer restoration the air suspension convert it over to many times happening coil springs. the fee and problems with the air isn't well worth it you restoration the difficulty now and quickly something else with the air equipment will fail and it is going on and on .
is the car getting lower to the ground,if so the air susp. is leaking. this is very well known for lincolns. the bad news is,it is very expensive to replace.i have 1991 town car,it happend to me.if car is staying at same level, the light coming on could be bad switch.dont worry about it,you can still drive it.
air suspension is a pneumatic type of suspension that is self adjusting based on load. there are three sensors around the car that tell the computer what the height of the car is, the computer can adjust the air pressure in the front and rear air bags to adjust the attitude of the car. if you feel like the car is sitting lower than it should and the light for the air ride system is on , i would take it in to have it checked out. there are a few different things that can go wrong in that system. the last one that i looked at was an interesting situation. if the key was on the compressor was also but the height would not change. after running a full system check on it, i decided that the problem was with the compressor itself. replaced that and all was well.
