I keep hearing about centerfire and muzzle loaders but i dont know the diffrence between them? can some one help?
A muzzle loader is loader from the muzzle as the name implies. A centerfire rifle/pistol has a cartridge which is loaded in to a magazine or directly in to the breech.
A muzzle loader is a black powder (or equivalent) firearm. You pour a measured amount of powder down the barrel. then a patched ball. And using a ramrod push the ball all the way in the barrel. Then place a firing cap on the nipple the firearm is ready to be fired. Flintlocks are a bit different in the firing. NEVER us modern smokeless gun powder in a black powder firearm EVER! Center fire cartridges are self contained round. primer, powder, bullet all in one unit that is loaded from the breach. Unless your talking about a center fire muzzle loader then it is just when the nipple is located. Center of the rifle instead of on the side.
With centerfire, the ammunition is all in one unit, a cartridge that you load. A muzzleloader must be loaded one component at a time, powder, patch, bullet from the muzzle,then a percussion cap or some other ignition method must be supplied to fire the weapon. Go to your local gun store, NOT one of the big chains, a local mom-n-pop gun store that is most likely to have someone who actually knows something about firearms.
