Question:

Centipede care?

I caught an amazing scolopendromorpha last night and I plan on keeping it. I already put it in a big plastic container and can feed it but I can‘t currently purchase any substrate for it, which is apparently essential for its survival so I want advice on what to accommodate it with in the meanwhile.

Answer:

Get a can of febreeze and lighter. Aim febreeze at centipede. Start to spray out chemical and light lighter under the spray, it should create a large flame, killing the centipede immediately.
Good results have been reported with substrates made of a combination of potting soil/peat moss or peat moss/vermiculite. Both of these substrates hold moisture well and support burrowing. An added bonus is that the high acidity of the peat moss retards the growth of fungus and mold. Be sure to use pesticide free ingredients in your substrate as they can quite easily kill your pet. Sand is not recommended as it goes stale quickly in the high humidity environment that centipedes need.
