ceramic and porcelian whats the differance?
Ceramics are made of any sort of clay that forms crystals when fired. Porcelain involves the use of a specific white clay known as kaolin. There are lots of artificial varieties of porcelain, but theoretically the only authentic stuff uses kaolin clay.
Was the alternator professionally tested? I would have it done by a mechanic that knows for sure what to look for.
Check around the wiring to see if you see or smell anything burning i had that problem and it was next to the battery there was a wire that got rubbed away and it was discharging.
I've built a couple of those and the amp gage can cause such a problem. You should be able to look at it and see if it has any signs of heat distortion especially at the wire connections. you can also buy one of those cheap under dash gages to hook up temporarily for a tester just don't let it touch any metal while you are doing this.
