Question:

Ceramic braces vs. Regular?

I‘m a sophomore in high school. I dance a lot, and I swim as well.I found out today from my orthodontist that I need to get braces. Should I go for the ceramic (clear) ones? I need the full set, and if anything they‘d only be ceramic on top because I‘d need the stronger metal ones on the bottom. If you have had experience with either types if you could post your opinion and Pro‘s/Con‘s that would be wonderful!-Nina

Answer:

I agree that you should just go with the metal ones. I had the ceramic ones on top and metal on the bottom, and I regret not going with the metal ones. ceramic ones are more expensive and look really weird if you get colors on them. I also had a couple of them break off because they aren't as strong as the metal ones, and this delays the progress of your braces. Either way, your teeth will look weird at first, but at least the metal ones look normal after a while and cost less. P.S. Don't color coordinate your braces based on holidays.it really isn't cute
I have ceramic on the top and metal on the bottom I say go with that. The ceramic are barely noticeable in pictures and I have never had them break off or anything (and I must admit I don't treat them with as much care as I really should food wise) They look generally better than having metal all across. Also, having the metal on the bottom is barely noticeable and it doesn't look weird having 2 different kinds in your mouth. Overall, I suggest going with the ceramic. I haven't regretted it Good luck with everything!
get ceramic! they are just as strong, less noticable, and come off a tiny bit sooner! there are no cons when comparing it to standard braces except price (not sure on that as im in uk and metal is free lol) i just had extraction 2/4 today and am getting ceramic in 2 months
