Question:

check engine light flashes 1999 ford explorer?

i have a 1999 ford explorer 4L 4x4 the engine light came on one day and didn't go off when I lay on the gas the check engine light flashes I changed all the plugs and wires and the light still stayed on so I went to auto zone and they scanned it and said cylinder 1 and 6 were misfiring so I bought a new coil and nothing changed the light still stays on and flashes and it seemed like it's getting worse. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

Answer:

a flashing light is very bad for the engine. if that light is flashing that means that you are in a situation that is destroying some part of the engine or emission control system. a misfire is caused by so much more than just the plugs wires and coil packs. go back to autozone and look at the freeze frame data. this will tell you allot of the variables that were present when that light came on. use that information to determine what is going on.
The colder the air the better the car runs. The way they are supposed to work is one, they simplify the route traveled by the air which keeps it cool. Making it as straight as possible. It adds between 2-6 horsepower. Usually cleans up an engine bay. The less the air has to work to get to your engine the cooler it is.
it makes the computer think it is a cold start and add more fuel and lets the engine run cooler
