It sounds like the sensitivity setting for those 5 smoke alarms is way off. Each smoke alarm should be factory set for the correct smoke level before triggering. I don't know if there's a sensitivity adjustment in your alarms that you can adjust. Check the manual that came with your smoke alarms. Otherwise, replace them with new ones. You might take your (defective) smoke alarms to your local fire department and have them test them. I wouldn't think there would be a charge for this service. Your fire department should be able to tell you if your alarms are working correctly or not.
