Question:

chemistry help!?

Write the chemical formula:-ammonium hydroxide-copper(II)nitrate-zinc oxide-nitrous acidwrite the appropriate name for each compound:-H2C2O4(the #s are subscripts)-(NH4)SO4(the #s are subscripts)i really dont get this, especially the stock numbers. Is there a trick for knowing how to write the chemical formulas? I have a sheet that has common polyatomic ions but i dont have a textbook.

Answer:

1. Ammonium should be one of your common polyatomic ions, as should hydroxide. Ammonium is NH4 with a charge of 1+. Hydroxide is OH with a charge of 1-. Because they have the same charge you can just stick them together. NH4OH. Remember that the positive ion goes first. 2. Copper (II) is copper Cu with a charge of 2+. They specify it because copper can have a charge of 1+ or 3+ as well. Nitrate is another common polyatomic ion. It's NO3 with a charge of 1-. Put the copper first. Then you need the NO3. Copper has a charge of 2+ and NO3 is 1- so you need 2 nitrates. Put it in brackets so that it doesn't look like NO32. Cu(NO3)2 3. Zinc has a charge of 2+, oxygen has a charge of 2-. You can just put them together to get ZnO. 4. Sorry, I don't know this one. 5. Or this one. 6. But this is Ammonium Sulfate. And it's written wrongly, it should be (NH4)2SO4. Anyway, with this one you just say it the way that it's written. And please get yourself a textbook!
Are you nuts? It would take 24 to 30 episodes for him to recover from a back injury like that! Personally, I'm not sure that was real but don't tell anyone I said that, I hate arguing with those die hard Steve Austin fans. They're worse than wrestling fans!
Oh good lord, don't even get me going about that. Look at the Wonder Woman show with her lifting crap in those boots that mysteriously went from high heels to flats--She should have busted the heels off of them many times over.
I thought that I was the only person that thinks about this kind of weird crap. Nice to meet you Spite.Great minds must think alike. Maybe his back was bionic, too but we just didn't know about that.
