All are good in their own ways, but if you want my honest opinion... Classic metal is an 8 of 10 Thrash Metal is a 9 of 10 Glam Metal is a 6 of 10 Death Metal is a 9 of 10 Industrial Metal is a 7 of 10 Gothic Metal is a 7 of 10 Nu Metal is a 7 of 10 All metal is good metal, unless it's not, then it sucks... NEED MOAR OPETH!!!
woot, lets do this. Classic: what can i say? of course i love these guys! (sorry Van Halen, not you. Dio shall take your place in my list) without them, wed have no other metal (arguably) Thrash: My all-time favorite sub genre, next to Doom Metal. Im not a fan of Metallica though, i would place Exodus, Kreator, or Overkill in its place. Probably Overkill, theyre one of the very few bands that have stuck to essentially what they started out with, never selling out and never easing up. and plus, who doesnt love a shirt that says Established 1981, THIS IS OURS: Get your own ******* logo (Aimed at Avenged Sevenfold, who stole Overkills mascot, Chaly, who is the Deathbat.) Glam Metal: eh... Crue is decent.. moving on... Death Metal: Love it. nothing like a good growl to settle the day, Opeth (Progressive Death Metal) is one of my top favorite bands of all time. Industrial: never been my cup of tea to be honest. Gothic: I can get into a few songs that fit into this sub-genre, though their not along the lines o the bands you have listed. Nu Metal: my all time least favorite sub-genre, old Korn was pretty decent on their first release, same with SOAD in my opinion, but when you get into stuff like Sh*tknot and Disturbed, eh, no thank you.
This is all in my opinion: Classic: probably my favourite Thrash: I only really like Metallica from this genre, mostly their earlier stuff Glam: used to like, it got old fast, now I almost loathe it Death: not a fan Industrial: I only like a couple of Nine Inch Nails songs, but that's about it Gothic: I like Evanescence, don't really like the rest of it Nu: System of a Down is awesome. The rest sucks.
I might be a hypocrite for saying this cus i use genres quite a bit but genres and subgenres are killing music. But back to your question IMO they are all great, though im not a fan of Nu Metal and Glam Metal
Okay well Classic Metal is cool. I like Judas Priest but i would list Black label society as (classic metal) But classic metal is one of my fav genes in music along wit other classic metal bands such as Iron Maiden,Guns N' Roses, AC/DC,Riot,Accept......... etc Thrash Metal is indeed awesome i like Metallica but i prefer much of their (EARLY) music like their first 4 albums. The black was okay but its not there best and other albums from them I indeed like Megadeth,Anthrax,Slayer,Kreator,Overkill... Thrash metal is one of the greatest genes EVER! =) Glam metal now im not a big fan if glam metal but i can say that it has some good music like KISS as you listed other than that its ehhh Death Metal is a KILLER genre i can say it is very much powerful but i wouldn't classify Behemoth as death metal i would consider them as a mixture of black/death cause their early stuff was black due to their demos and their first 4 albums i thought that was black metal. But cannibal corpse is good along with other death metal bands such as Deicide,Suffocation,Morbid angel,Skinless,Vader...... etc Industrial Metal ehhhh i don't like much music thats industrial Goth Metal is also good i like it such as cradle as you listed but their early stuff is way better then how they are now but over all good band i would say just like bands like Epica, (old) Nightwish,Delain,Visions of atlantis,Within temptation,Leaves eyes....but they all mix up with Symphonic metal too =) Nu Metal i can say i don't like i mean its okay just not something i would listen too all the time SOAD is an okay band but i can't stand bands such like slipknot,Disturbed,Mushroomhead ehhh all gay in my opinion! Ps wheres the BLACK METAL!!!!! hehe :)
