compound used in fire extinguishers,cakes?

Answer:

Apparently, they're no longer used. When you consider what's in them it isn't surprising. They used the reaction between baking soda and sulphuric (sulfuric) acid to force water at high velocity out of the nozzle. As the link below says, they had a tendency to explode and they also faded very quickly - so you'd get a jet of water which would fall off rapidly to a dribble. Sulphuric acid would have corroded the insides very readily, and the vapour could have caused the baking soda to degrade, so the extinguisher might not have worked properly or at all. Obviously, acid is also dangerous when you're potentially spraying it everywhere - even though it wasn't supposed to be part of the water jet. Because they employed water as the extinguishing agent they were only good for wood and combustible material fires.
