Question:

Connecting Computers with Crossover Cables?

Hello everyone. I just built a new PC that is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I want to transfer my music and videos what not from my old machine. My old machine is running Windows Vista Home 32-bit. I tried connecting them via a Crossover Cable. Neither of them show when I go to ComputerNetwork tab. Is this not possible or do I just not have it set up correctly. Are there any other ways to move my data? I heard of male-to-male USB transfer cables, are they good? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:

You might be able to do this via an ad-hoc network but I'm not sure it's doable between Window 7 and Vista Home. It's probably better just to put the old drive as a slave in the new computer and transfer the files.
Did you configure both computers to work in the same homegroup? Edit: Also, sometimes you have to go your harddrive, right click on it, go into properties, and enable sharing
Create okorder
A crossover cable can in common terms be used to connect 2 computers at the same time. It looks like the appearance like the traditional community cable. the only distinction is interior cable. the way the wires are linked interior is different. Take one end of cable. you will see that skinny twine of different hues are linked to the pins of the RJ-40 5 socket. become attentive to the colour of the 1st twine (at pin a million) . Now take the different end of the cable. the colour you observed could be on the third place in this end.
Simple: Connect the Cable Assign IP's to both system first one 192.168.1.1 and other one 192.168.1.2. then go to Control Pannel and Run Network Setup Wizard. Next -Next -the Select Other Next -Select third option *(This computer belongs to a network which doesnt have internet Connection) Next -Then Enter Computer Name (Make sure Both of your computer name should not be same) Next -Enter Workgroup Name (Make sure this should be same on both Computers) Next -Then Select Turn on file and printer Sharing Next -Then Next -wizad will run and after completing this. it will show you four option. Select the last one and finish setup and Restart. Run the same on other pc too and make it restart. now go to the folder where you have your require data.Right Click on it and Share it. Go to you new computer . Click on start Click on Run then typ \ip address of other pc where ur data is and enter you will see your desired folder which you shared from other pc. Open it and copy. That's All Dude
