Question:

Corolla 2005: transmission fluid vs coolant?

Hi! Are transmission fluid and coolant in corolla 2005 are the Same thing? I have no idea! Thanks!

Answer:

*ABSOLUTELY NOT! Read the specifications page of your glove compartment manual. You will see that automatic transmission fluid and Toyota Antifreeze have to separate part numbers. Any Toyota dealer will have BOTH the transmission fluid AND special long life antifreeze. Go to a Toyota dealer to buy EITHER one. Do not mix discount store antifreeze with Toyota Brand Antifreeze. Do not buy discount store automatic transmission fluid for a Toyota! Get the right TWO fluids from a Toyota Dealer!
NEVER drive a car with malfunctioning brakes. I doubt that they did anything to it to cause your problem. Take it to a brake specialty shop and have them give an analysis of the situation with an estimate of repair costs. Karl. You admit you are not a mechanic and your response verifies that. Answer what you know about but don't give bad information just to get points.
Did you ever get it fixed if so what did you do? An update would be nice. Thank you.
Toyota OEM fill for engine coolant is RED. Just not oily like the transmission fluid. To answer your questions , there is nothing similar betwen the two fluids and the transmission fluid is held in the transmission itself. However the radiator does have the transmission cooler in the tank of the radiator and has the cooler lines going to and from the radiator to the transmission.
Depends on how you look at it. The engine has water based coolant and it goes to the radiator. The automatic transmission has a red oil based fluid that it stored in the bottom of the transmission pan, but it has lines that run the transmission oil through the radiator as well, to cool it off. It is not called coolant, and is the transmission oil, but it does cool the transmission and could leak near the front of the car. The way to tell the difference is whether the drips are water or oil based. The smell and viscosity will be very different. There is no tranmission oil tank, but there is a thin tube used for filling and a dip stick, that run all the way down to the transmission pan.
