Back in the old days of hacking we used to attack the BIOS and cause big problems. Eventually the manufacturers got wise and write-protected it. You can do cool stuff like change the system clock and the hard drive types. Look for a book by Peter Norton called Programming the IBM PC. It might still be in print. It's the seminal publication on manipulating the PC through its' BIOS using assembly language. Every programmer should read it. Mr. Norton went on to some other famous projects: you have probably heard of his anti-virus stuff.
Age and stamina matters, the more youthful could sit or lay on a blanket and get up or down with no problem. As we age, the chair is really the better idea.
