Today it started making a loud lawn mower type sound. I asked a friend he said my exhaust manifold was cracked. Im sure its omething exhaust system related because i can smell the fumes from the car are pretty strong. I havnt hit or run over anything in the road. The only thing i can think of is from driving my car pretty hard the past few weeks. Im always running late to work.2008 Chevy cobalt LT 2.2 engine i think, 106000 miles on it
Your friend is correct. Sometimes exhaust manifolds just crack for no apparent reason and other times it can take a mechanical impact of some sort to cause a crack or break. Driving your car hard shouldn't cause a manifold to crack but this really does need your immediate attention. Carbon monoxide is nothing to fool around with and you need to deal with this problem ASAP.
If it is loud, start it up and get out to check under the hood to see if it there, It could be further back along the exhaust. If you can smell fumes you have to get this fixed immediately as carbon monoxide poisoning is not to be ignored.
pretty much, exactly the same, clutch is a clutch.
Easily checked, start the engine and have someone press a rag against the tailpipe. The back pressure will make the point of leaking very obvious. But if you are smeeling it, it probabli is somewhere about the engine. It is of course, dangerous to inhale exhaust gases, especially the carbon monoxide component. You should effect repairs ASAP.
