Question:

crossover cable-lan?

hey i need some help trying to connect 2 pcs together using a crossover cable.my laptop using windows vista and my desktop using xpplease help

Answer:

just give them a private ip address and the subnet mask 255.255.255.252. this will enable a peer to peer network. oh yeah, about the address, just go with 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2, its more simple that way. and they can both share files if this was done correctly
you can get a cable to go from lpt1 to lpt1 pcanywhere can use it to transfer any files you might need to
not possibel you need win xp or vista in each other
Dear you need a cable like CAT5 or CAT5E, then join Connetor of RJ45 at one side then at other side just change the cables of 1 to 3 and 2 to 6 then connect to both systems and enjoy.
You need to make sure you use static IP's on both systems, enable file and print sharing, and they need to be in the same workgroup. You can check that part by going to system properties in your control panel and click on the computer name tab. Also if you made your crossover cable, you need to make sure you only reversed the TX/RX(Orange and Green pairs) on one side. You set the static IP's and file and print sharing in the properties of the network adapter you're connecting the cable to.
