Question:

Difference between Axle-Back and Cat-Back Exhaust?

what is a axle back?what is a cat-back?what is a cat? please explain it as simple as possible.

Answer:

never heard of an axle back but a cat is really called a catylic converter but called cat for short. if you look under the vehicle its a small muffler lookin thing close to the front of the exhaust. there will be two of them
not sure on the axle back, but a cat is your catalytic converter, and cat-back is the term used when you remove the exhaust from the catalytic converter and replace it with an after market cat-back exhaust
Axle back replaces the bend in the pipe that goes over the axle on some vehicles and is a point of restriction in the cat-back (exhaust system). It's pre-muffler and post-resonator on 100% of vehicles (that have the problem). Basically it turns a bend into straight pipe (usually). This is actually a good modification on cars like the cobalt and ion but usually requires a new muffler.and the mufflers that usually come with axle backs are awful in my opinion. Cat-Back is everything from the flange after the catalytic converter back to the muffler/tip. Stock systems have resonator(s) and mufflers.a resonator tunes the sound post cat, the muffler dampens or masks the exhaust note/sound. Cat is a catalytic converter-filters exhaust.
