What is the difference between bench pressing with a bar and benching with a machine? I use a machine and bench 180lb, but my friends tell me it's easier on a machine than it is a bar. I've done both at 160lb before and I don't notice a difference.
When bench pressing with free weights, secondary muscles are involved in balancing the weight, where as with a machine, these secondary muscles are not involved. using a machine is fine, but in order to build greater density and strength, free weights can be a little bit better. Remember when benching with free weights, ALWAYS have a spotter!
