Question:

DIY attic insulation?

I am considering laying insulation in my attic myself. I have never tackled a project like this so I am looking for tips, tricks and advice about it, especially what problems I may face.

Answer:

It sounds like your apartment complex has been master-keyed. That means every lock in the entire place typically can be opened with the master key (the key your property manager has) and a control key (the key you get). The master key opens any lock where your control key only opens your lock. Master keying works because there are extra pins put into your lock's cylinder to allow multiple combinations of key shapes to line up all of the pins. If the ORIGINAL locksmith that master-keyed the complex rekeys your lock, it is likely that the master key will still open it. If you call another locksmith that is unfamiliar with the master key chart, they will likely just throw away all pins and start over. In that case, the master key will no longer work in your lock. Rekeys typically cost about $70-$80 for the first lock $20-$30 for each additional. Trip fees are usually built into the first lock's service. New locks will solve your problem also and might even be cheaper, but then you have to do all of the work yourself, and it is not likely you will be able to find locks that match the look of the other locks in the complex. It sounds like your property manager is okay with you rekeying the locks (with his little disclaimer) but they're usually not okay with installing locks that don't visually match the originals. Hope that helps.
Master keys are set for certain locks.if the new lock you bought falls into that range for the masterit can still open it. Your mom could be in trouble for replacing the lock without permission from landlordbut it is also a violation for the landlord to go into someones apartment with permission or notifying you they are doing socheck your lease agreement.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Can someone with a master key open any lock? We recently changed outer door locks on my mom's apartment because she doesn't want her apartment manager going in while she is away from home. With their master key, would they still be able to unlock her door without having the new key? Are these keys capable of opening other
No. The master is only for that set of locks not every lock. Otherwise all someone would need is a master key to break in anywhere. Now, when it comes to the issue of the manager entering your mom's apartment, he/she cannot just enter without reason. The laws vary but in most places the landlord has to give notice (usually 24 hours) and have a justifiable reason for entering the apartment. There are some building managers and landlords who violate this and trespass thinking they can do whatever the heck they want. If this is the case I would suggest your mom remind them in writing of the law. Also, as someone else pointed out, you are probably in violation of your lease for changing that door.
Lots of great boy names. Avoid what everyone else is choosing right now! Avoid what could be a girl or boy name. One thing I found is you can pick a perfect boy's name but when that baby arrives you have to look at him and ask him what he thinks. Only one of my three kids ended up with the name I chose ahead of time. I like Phil, John, good strong old fashioned names. I was going to name my first one Garrett but he didn't look like a Garrett. It was 3 days before he had a name! So my dad named him and it was perfect, he was named after a friend of the family's son who had died that day. The Jewish name their kids after someone who has passed. My next grandbaby will be named in remembrance of my father unless it doesn't suit him of course!
