Question:

Do car alarms really deter car jackers?

I have noticed one time that a neighbors car went off once and as soon as they tried to reboot the alarm from going off again, they accidently shut it off completely having the car stolen for days. Thankfully the alarm was hooked up properly but really can this deter theifs from looking at it as an opportunity?

Answer:

There are many factors. First, don't panic. Not many wives have the luxury of hearing from their spouses all the time. He could be busy (most likely) or tired. Since he is in the habit of communicating with you often, I am sure that he will do so as soon as he is able to/has time to. He is of course deployed, meaning he is at the military's beck and call at any time. My friend's husband was deployed with my husband and she was able to communicate with him almost 24/7 while I would only hear from mine two-three times a week because their jobs are very different from each other. At other deployments, my husband and the other wives' husbands could only contact us a handful of times a month. You are actually the exception and if/when you get married to this man and should he decide to stay in the military, you will have many, many more of these times where you won't hear from him as often as you would like to. Take a deep breath and just remember that there are other people going through this as well, you are not alone. Whenever I feel sorry for myself or get worried about him I think of our child who misses his dad and if a child can take it then I should be able to as well. There are plenty of children that are missing their daddies and mommies and we as their partners/wives need to remember there is nothing you can do anyway but to learn to suck it up (especially when you have your own children).
