I was told that my car needs the right inner tie rod and wheel cylinder replaced. I was told it requires a wheel alignment. It looks like this shop wants twice as much for a wheel alignment as a place a few miles away. If I can I would decline the alignment there since it costs more. Does this car repair require a wheel alignment and does it have to be done where the work is performed or can I decline the alignment and get it done elsewhere?
an ABS system is nice to have but it still does not replace careful driving habits. Some people have actually gotten into accidents thinking that with the abs system they could step on thier brakes any old way and still come out of it smelling like a rose. Also the ABS the car manufacturers like to tout somuch about on thier commercials is only for two wheels. To be truly effective it must be on all four. PA has a good road maintenance system,,but many out there like to put the pedal to the metal. And you see many a semi down a ditch in the rain or snow. When the roads are bad you should drive accordingly, that the best advice for anyone. Sometimes you'r late but so what? You got there in one piece. thats what counts.
Yes it requires an alignment when they change the tie rod's. You could chance driving an mile or two without it, go slow and only to the next shop or you could do years worth of damage to your tires in an short time.
Any work requiring the disassembly of your steering system requires a wheel alignment. Driving your car with the wheels out of alignment can cause significant wear and tear on your tyres also in some cases can also be unsafe! Unsafe because driving with wheels not aligned can cause your car to pull to one side especially when you hands are off the wheel Imagine you take your hands off the wheels for a few seconds to answer your phone and your car drives itself straight into a pole As professional mechanics they will need to align the wheels when they put everything back together. The Cost of the wheel alignment should have been included in the cost of the replacement of your tie rod
Absolutely any time you change any parts or make any repairs to the steering or suspension system an alignment MUST be done. Also get the alignment done at the place you get the repair done because if a car is misaligned as little as a 1/4 it will scrub the tire 3,000 miles every mile meaning if you drive 1 mile misaligned it puts 3,000 miles of wear on the tire. Honestly get the stuff done at a dealership. I work for a nissan dealership and all dealerships cost more but take the best care of your car.
I am sure it has ABS, my 2001 does. Operations wise no, it doesn't hurt, you will just skid more if you hit the brakes hard. As far at the snow, I live in North Dakota and drove a vehicle without ABS. As long as you are careful and don't slam on the brakes you are fine. Just pump them a bit and it will get the job done.
