No fanboy Intel or AMD answers please. I only want legitimate answers.I do a lot of digital music recording (DAW) and video/animation editing (including work with Autodesk MAYA. Do you think I the 980X is worth the 980X for these purposes?Of the following CPUs, which would you choose for my purposes, with all factors taken into account:Intel i7-980XIntel i7-875KIntel i7-860AMD 1055TAMD 1090TThanks, I will be interested in your replies. BTW, I currently use a Q9650 in one of my rigs and a Q8400 in the other.
if your gonna be using programs that take advantage of multiple cores than speed is of lesser importance and the 1055 or 1090 should be fine - good multi-tasking cpu's. The 980 is the fastest, most efficient processor you can buy, but alot of animators are doing just fine on cpu's like the 860 or less. i like the the 1055t as you cannot beat it for the price - you may be more interested in a ram upgrade witht the extra dough you save - depending on how much you have now.
If your life income depends on it (your job requires it), then its probably worth it because you are going to make the processor price pay. The fact is that very little software takes advantage of more than 4 threads...so the additional two cores sit there IDLE doing NOTHING for you, no matter how intense the application. So you need to check with your software vendor(s) first and find out, is the software you are using going to be able to access and use the additional two cores. IF not, its a total waste of money on your part and does NOTHING to make anything more efficient. You are better off buying a Quad Core CPU, any of the other i7 processors makes more sense. No matter how sophisticated, intense, demanding, your applications are, if the extra two cores cannot be accessed or used by your software, its just a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. If you are going to just have to have a 6 core processor, then get the AMD 1090T for $300 and save yourself the extra $700...but it just doesn't make sense at $1000 to buy that Intel processor unless you have the software for it. Buy either one of the other i7 processors or the AMD 1090T if you just can't live without the latest cpu. The Intel processor costs too much money for NO GAIN in performance buying something that cannot be used 100%.
6 cores is 6 cores no matter how you look at it. With that many cores, and since they brought back their version of Turbo Boost to the Thuban (although not as elegant as Intel's version), not to mention AMD has their current trend of their chipsets being able to bridge processor gaps like nothing else...you will not totally lose...and you get to save a good chunk of change in the process. If you are looking long-term while doing small upgrades here and there without having to mess with the processor and motherboard...by all means 980X Gulftown.
If i will build a computer so are you able to. have confidence me in this one. assembly is a breeze. Took perhaps 3 hours max. Google the thank you to construct a computer. there's a lot information on line. The confusing section is the learn you need to do. in view which you have become a deal on the i7 you would be development the tower around it. you intend to make confident each and every thing will artwork mutually and the computer will do what you % it to do. like all different posting stated there incredibly is a definite quantity of delight in development it your self. desire this allows. good success.
i've never found an intel worth the price. seen too many burn up from normal use. presently using an amd 965, which is plenty for almost any user. a good gpu is going to be more critical for your video than the cpu once you've gone to 3ghz, even single core... not speaking as a fanboy per se, just giving my experiences, which of course gave me my preference in building now... a better response is 'not a fan of intel'... further, if you've been working w/ computersw since '68 you should already know this. also, you r chatting is a violation along w/ being rude and ranting and i wouldn't expect your question to stay up much longer
