Question:

Does a bad transmission make noise?

I have a 2000 Buick Century with 125,000 miles. The car seems to run well for around 10 miles then it changes. At this point the car doesn‘t accelerate as well and I hear a little noise that seems to be around the transmission area. I hope it it something like a bad solenoid rather than the transmission. Most miles were highway. Does a bad transmission make noise and why do I only hear it after I drive a while?

Answer:

well, a bad transmission can cause a noise. but don't condemn the transmission without professional diagnosis. there could be a half dozen things that could cause your situation. torque converter, transmission, catalytic converter, mass airflow sensor, throttle position sensor, or something i can't think of off the top of my head. are there any trouble codes set? check engine lamp? how's the transmission fluid look? clean, red?
