does anyone have any receipes for bread using rice flour?
There are a great many decent yarns out there that are not acryllic and not horrendously expensiveAnd, yes, they do make a difference in your finished sweaterLion Brand is not a bad yarn to start with, but a yarn shop can give you many other options than you will find at most mass marketersLamb's Pride is a very nice yarn of wool and mohair that makes lovely sweaters, so is Cascade 220, among many, many othersWhile both are more expensive than Lion Brand Wool-Ease, they are not exorbitantly priced, and even a knitter of modest means can knit a lovely first sweater for $60 to $80 dollars that will stand up and last in a nicer fashion than Red Heart or Caron type yarnsIf you are going to invest the time and energy in knitting a garment you want a better quality of yarnHowever, there are some acryllics that have a better hand (fabric texture and feel) such as Paton's Decor and Plymouth Encore that are not horribly expensiveAnother wool option, btw, not horribly expensive either, is Paton's Classic Merino WoolThat one is an especially good buy at about $5 a ball, because it has excellent yardage and a sweater requiring 1000 yards (which about a woman's medium size sweater) only needs 5 balls.
You could knit various items: hats, booties, infant burial gowns, blankets, infant positioner snake for the ICU units, etcto donate to hospitalsThere are many different organizations to get involved in to help out hospitalsAs a mother who had a baby who had to stay in the ICU for awhile, it helps to know someone cared enough to make an item for my babyAlso, Lion Brand has a website with lots of free patterns for just about everything.
lion brand is good for a sweaterthe more expencive brands are hand spun and hand dyed and all thati think the quality is pretty much the same between the twoi would go for the lion brand thoughplus if you get lions bran make sure its from the same dye lotso the colors are identical.
There are many choices for yarns I probably would go with something that isn't very expensive for your first sweaterGoing from making an afghan to a sweater is a job in itselfThere's a lot of shaping and instruction that you rarely get in a blanket The most important factor in purchasing a yarn for a sweater is to check your gauge you can not rely on the pattern saying use a medium worsted weight yarn and just pick out a medium worsted weight yarn and start working your pattern trust me on this experience was my teacher !!!! I made a large size sweater that when finished was about a 3X, no one could wear it so I had to pull the whole thing apartActually the first sweater I made (pattern with suggested yarn) was a baby sweater figured if I started small it would take less time and I'd get to know just how difficult a larger sweater would beFortunately Lion Brand and many others have websites with free patterns to go with specific yarnsHappy Crafting .
