Question:

Does anyone have spray foam insulation in there attic?

We are looking to upgrade our attic insulation and are considering using spay foam insulationThey spray it on the roof rafters and seal up the atticDoes anyone have this in there home or can comment on this? Thanks.

Answer:

It is wool, thats why they made moth balls to get rid of them.
You are asking for a world of hurt there unless you are making the attic into a living spaceIt is far better to use either cellulose fiber blown in or batts of fiberglass laid in to an R-40 at least. When putting the insulation in, MAKE SURE they install vents along the soffit and put the sleeves in the rafters that allow circulation and don't block them with insulationAs I said, if you are finishing the attic into a living space, then spray foam does a neat job, other than that, you want all the moisture from the house to be able to escape through the attic, not get trapped there or you're going to have fogged windows and water actually dripping down your interior wallsYou cannot have too many vents in your atticSpray foam is also very useful in applications like sealing the garage airtight from the house if it's attached so you dont get gassed but for an attic? No.
