You can own pre 1986 ban machine guns with out any type of special license you just have to go through a lot of BATF red tape and expect to pay 15-20,000 dollars rules of supply and demand I'm afraid Now if you want to acquire machine guns manufactured after the 1986 ban you have to call the ATF and ask them for the federal firearms license paperwork they will mail you a packet full of forms in a few weeks you fill them all out send the back to the BATF with a check for $200 dollars and a fingerprint card they send you that you have to get doneThen after they get your paperwork back then they send a BATF agent from the nearest BATF office to interview they want to see how you intend to use the FFL they want to see where you're going to store the weapons you acquire etc Keep in mind that the BATF will not give you a FFL for the sole reason of acquiring firearms for your own Personal collection an FFL is for business purposes not individual use keeping mind you can never really own class 3 weapons if they are Post 86 ban as a civilian you just acquire them you can sell them to Law enforcement and security companies that are allowed to have post ban select-fire weapons and of course as a Dealer you have to test your products to make sure they are safe and workEdit- Keep in mind you don't need a brick and mortar store to get an FFL you can run a firearms transfer business out of your garage if you wanted too all the BATF cares about it that you have a secure place for the firearms
